Quality, and how we achieve it

At etc. Press we realize there are advantages to having a shop full of new gear, but we also know that rigorous checks and balances along with vigilance are what makes a reputation for quality in the printing business.

When you print at etc. Press, you can count on the following:

Every job that is printed on an offset press will have a pair of motivated eyes with good vision applied to all areas of both sides of every sheet. We refer to this as "weeding". We have weeded enough of our own work and that of our peers to know that a hard look is not only beneficial, but advisable-even on simple jobs. We know of no other print shop that weeds their printing, some may do it when a critical job warrants it but we do it with EVERYTHING. Printing with ink is first and foremost an artform. We realize that every job is different and that colour balance can shift throughout a job. As well, spots and marks can come and go. Weeding allows us to benchmark the job and insure it's integrity.

We will not attempt to sell a bad job, finishing and delivering it to a customer in hopes they won't notice it's short comings, or offering a discount to take it "as-is". If because of technical difficulty we encounter a job that is not up to standard on it's first printing, we'll print it again, making adjustments in our technique or method to insure it's success on the second printing. This will be done without fanfare, at the agreed delivery time and usually without the knowledge of the customer. Once a price has been established, whatever materials that are required to print and finish a quality job will be expended, regardless of the number of sheets or amount of time allowed within the quotation.

Digital jobs will be run in small batches with quality checks performed on each batch, thus insuring the integrity of your black or colour laser job. Our colour printers are calibrated daily and all printers are vigorously maintained to operate at a level that is in keeping with the manufacturers specifications.

Due to our dilligence and attention to detail, we have an extremely low ratio of re-do's at etc. Press. We realize that to be competitive in the printing business and also profitable, there can be no room for errors. The ultimate beneficiary of this philosophy is our happy, satisfied customers.
